Inamo restaurant in London has managed to combine both excellent food and state of the art technology in lunching and dining. A true audiovisual pleasure that places the control of the eating experience right in your hands. Sleek, white projectors, which would not be out of place in the Korova Milky Bar frequented by Alex and company in the Clockwork Orange, hang over each of the tables.
Each place setting contains a touchpad through which the diner can control any aspect of the meal. Different backgrounds ranging from snow landscapes to geometric shapes can be selected. Drinks can be decided through the interactive drinks' menu as well as the different courses. All menus are illustrated and when placing the cursor over the desired option, a picture is projected of what the plate will look like. The food is Oriental fusion and beautifully presented. The only moment that actual human intervention is necessary is when being seated, receiving an explanation of how the system works, when the different dishes are brought to the table and finally, when the bill arrives. All other moments are operated through the touchpad.
While waiting for the food to arrive, it is possible to play a few interactive games, making the experience great fun. At the end of the meal, a taxi can be ordered through the Inamo system or the nearest subway and bus routes can be checked.
Corporate or special events can be programmed into the system so that the projections are in tune with a special evening. The restaurant is open to ideas to make their customers have an optimum and fun eating experience. Incredibly distracting and mesmerizing, the old rule that children should not play at the table is completely broken at Inamo, as playing is what this is all about.
