We would like to present the latest work of a group including members of the Telenoika collective based in Barcelona, who have been exploring and investigating during the past ten years with audiovisual creation at a very experimental level. The project was part of the Ingràvid festival in Figueres and consists of a mapping of the Teatro-Jardín façade of this city in the Empordà area.
This creation commenced with an investigative process about the technique itself, to be able to control the projection in a very precise manner and in turn, adapt the results to the specific building. This involved the use of 2D, 3D techniques and the development of special software. Once the technique was under control, the aim was to generate a spectacular visual display upon a building by means of a projector.
Our intention was to submerge the spectator in an unreal atmosphere where the reality of a building would be manipulated through sound and image fiction. Going one step further than optical illusions and visual tricks, the narrative possibilities that this emerging discipline offer are enthralling. The viewers perceive a virtual reality as real-life and can be confused with reality and fiction in a perturbing manner. The effect also acquires a strong symbolical significance when considering that the building is a theatre which was once a cinema.
In our case and given our audiovisual creative baggage, (VJing and electronic music), it is precisely the music that leads to an amazing show where both a building and its' plastic perception is toyed with. The fact of working with visual narration gives the sensation of observing an experimental film upon a non-conventional screen, the façade of a building.
