Iñaki Martikorena

Iñaki Martikorena’s first job was in television (Telemadrid), making news clips and documentaries. He devised, directed and produced the children’s programme Cyberclub, which won several awards, including a prize from the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias de la Televisión, and was on the shortlist for television’s Emmys. He has made TV ads and music videos for all types of commercial brands and music groups. He wrote and directed the short film La Luz de la Primera Estrella. For the last four years he has worked at Cuatro as creative and image director. During this period he has won further prizes, including the Grand Laus for design, awarded for creating the channel’s corporate image; and a prize from the Academia de TV Española, for his work producing and promoting Eurocopa 2008. His work has also won prizes at international festivals such as the International TV Broadcasting Festival of New York and Promax Europe.

How to make public TV and not die of boredom
Those of us who make public TV don’t have to count sheep to get to sleep. We can imagine what life would be like on a horror-theme channel, or a music video channel, or a pay channel aimed at educated people of good taste and an interest in Bulgarian cinema. So we fall asleep happy and content in our little fantasy. But the alarm clock tells you that your life is tough, that you’re always arriving late and in a rush, that people who make public TV, accessible to everyone, have a lower than average life expectancy, that you’ve got to go to a meeting to fight to prevent the commercial department from destroying your logo. But there is an upside. Though it’s not very frequent. But when it happens, when one of your images can bring a smile to the lips of a little brat of five, a car mechanic, a posh university student, the waitress at the bar on the corner and your grand-mother, then that, that is TELEVISION
